Creative Approach

Working closely with director Melissa-Kelly Franklin, our aim was to create a visual language that felt less like conventional cinema and more like a series of moving paintings.

As a film with no dialogue, every creative decision needed to support the story visually. The colour grade embraces a soft, painterly aesthetic, preserving the natural quality of the light while introducing subtle warmth, restrained contrast and delicate colour throughout. Rather than distracting from the performances, the grade was designed to quietly reinforce the emotional journey of the film.

As Sybil's physical and emotional state gradually deteriorates, her complexion evolves with it. Small adjustments to her skin tone were introduced scene by scene to subtly suggest illness and exhaustion, allowing the audience to feel her decline on an almost subconscious level.

The result is a grade that supports the film's visual storytelling, helping the emotion unfold through imagery rather than words.
